I continued discovering the XO with the kids over the week end.
The form factor is definitely great to help the kids with their homework. I showed my daughter how to use the dictionary at reference.com. He immediate reaction was that I was teaching her how to cheat, but I explained her that if you did not know the spelling of a word, you had to learn it from somewhere. I can see how having a reference source handy could really help her learn faster and better.
We played with eToy, an activity built in Squeak Small Talk System. EToy is a "a full-fledged, general purpose, multimedia ready, integrated development environment".
In this sample, the child can draw a shape, say a car and then can use a palette of instructions to move the car.
We played with some random number generator.
This is another version where the car is able to follow a track by itself.
