UML is extensible and can be adapted to many applications, such as EAI, B2B, and user interfaces. There is a profile of UML for EAI under adoption vote at OMG. Where EDOC is "friendly", UML 2.0 certainly is, because many EDOC features are incorporated in the UML 2.0 submission. All the major modeling vendors voted against EDOC because it overlaps with UML, and does not address business-specific concerns as required by its RFP.
